Joey C. Brown was born in February, 1986, in Georgia. She is the daughter of Joe Brown and Janet Spradling, who were both born in Kentucky. Joey was born so far from Kentucky because her parents had relocated so her father could find work. When Joey was one year old, they decided to move back to Flatwoods, KY, to give her the opportunity to grow up around her grandparents. She has a half-brother named John Eugene Potts. He is the son of Janet, from a previous marriage. John was born on Christmas Eve in 1969, and so was 16 years of age when Joey was born. Despite the large age difference and having different fathers, they always adored each other and had a healthy sibling relationship.
Joey's household and her grandparents lived on Turley Ave. in Flatwoods, nestled in a hollow in the wooded hills. She attended Advance Elementary School, and was the 4th generation in her family to do so. Her great-grandmother, Georgia Gholson, attended the school when it was a one-room school house. Her grandmother, Geraldine Elliott, her father, Joe Brown, and herself attended the two-story red brick, hardwood floored school. Advance Elementary tought grades Kindergarten through 5th, and Joey's 5th grade class was the last one to pass through before the old school was demolished.
In June of 1997, Advance was torn down, and its bricks were offered as keepsakes to families that had fond memories of the school. Today, a CVS pharmacy stands in its place.
Joey Brown attended 6th-8th grades at Russell Middle School, and 9th-12th grades at Russell High School, both located in Russell, KY. She graduated with honors and received a scholarship to Ashland Community College, located in Ashland, KY. There she attended college for three years, graduating on the Dean's List in 2007 with an AA.
Today she resides in Flatwoods, Kentucky, and is owner of Arty Saluki Creations.
